I have no idea what it is but here's your best way to find out. Post the photo on Facebook and say you just bought this (make up any name like) antique quill pen sharpener or something. Wait 10 minutes and you'll have 237 responses telling you that you're wrong and it's a "whatever" it really is.
Warning, there are many experts in FB Land so you may have to go with the majority rule thing.

It looks similar to this telescoping tube clamp with clamping ears on inside. Yours has a hinge though. These do not have the hinge.

It makes sure the nogglerods turn smoothly.

Sometimes longer than 3 days but the right scenario.

The reason the OP's has a hinge is because it is a muffler bearing. Any idiot knows that! I spotted it right away!

Post a photo of the widget clamp you are referring to. The OP would like to see it.

Post a photo of the one you found. This is the best I could find.

I don't have any photos. In fact I haven't even seen any since the great widget shortage of 1974 (who could forget those desperate times ).

It sure looks like a henweigh to me. We had them all over the house when I was growing up in farm country.

I'm pretty sure it's an old style gezebenflatzer. If you throw it away, you'll find 17 of them listed on eBay starting at $29.00 ea. The winning bid will probably be about $76.00.

If you keep it, you will never know what it is and o one will want to buy it.

That's exactly why we stopped tossing out all the little odd bits and pieces we've found around the house, the yard, and in the cars. We are now proud owners/guardians of a draw full of those "things". What we need is a draw of the things that match. Still NOT gonna throw the bits and pieces out, though!

I think you may well be right. Now that you mention it I can see the similarity between it and a Dings Gegenstand.

Nah - it's a henway.

("What's a henway"? About 5 pounds!)

No matter what it is it needs to be taken to the feed and seed store and treated so it won’t be attacked by sheetmetal worms 🐛
