Back to the beach....
....this time with gloves, wool hat and lots of down!
The weather report said it would be cold this morning when I checked last night. It also called for almost no wind and partial cloud cover. That was enough to motivate me to get up way too early and head out in the dark. When I got to the beach the first glow of the rising sun could be seen all along the horizon. This is a bit unusual. Most of the time there is a faint glow from the direction that the sun will emerge over the horizon.
As it got lighter, I realize there was going to be a good show. Now I needed to figure out how I wanted to capture it. I decided on a fisheye lens. I knew that I would not have much of a foreground interest since there was no jetty where I was. I noticed that the color from the sky was reflecting prominently on the water right in front of me. That is what I decided my composition would be. I then looked for a place where there were no footprints in the sand, and where I could get close to the surf. I positioned the camera low . In the first shot I had it pointed down so that the horizon would be curved. For the second shot I had the camera more level and turned at an angle that would include the shore line. I also increased the shutter speed to include some detail while still giving the impression of movement. All comments welcome.

It's flat I tell you! The earth is flat! Columbus could have convinced the powers that be more easilly if he had a fisheye lens.

Less abstract, more detail and possibly better balance between elements on left and right because of the wave.

Pretty much just fire in the sky. Added a bit of contrast but left the colors alone.

Great captures, beautiful renderings of the Sunrise. Fave is #2. Please stay safe and warm during the New Year!

Glad you enjoyed the photos. I agree that the second shot is the most interesting. Have a great New Year.

Looks like it was well worth getting up early and braving the cold. Goodies of the fisheye in your first shot.

Fun shot. Thanks for the comment. I'm just glad that it lined up nice and symmetrical.

Very nice Erich. Lots of credit for getting up and going out so early. I might have got up but then back to bed. 🤤
My favorite it your second shot. Interesting composite.

Of the three, the second is my favorite as well. It took quite a number of shots before I got a wave to do just what I wanted without getting me wet. I also like the choice of shutter speed for that photo. I also like the first shot because of the symmetry and the blending between beach and ocean. Thanks for taking a look.

A beautiful and interesting series, Erich! Happy New Year!
Enjoyed your creative ideas with the fisheye lens. The 2nd one presents a very interesting abstract for me. Bev
These are very nice images, Erich, but you need to straighten the horizons in the first 2.
Seriously, though, I think the images are very engaging. I like the second best - it's not too abstract but not too real either.
Happy New Year.

Nature was putting on a very nice show. I love your creativity in shooting.
Beautiful images Erich and the 2nd one is exceptional!
