So many people seem to save hundreds of dollars using coupons. They don't usually work for me because I buy store brands. Hannaford (supermarket) gives quarterly rebates for buying their store brands, and I save money that way. Saving $1.00 on an item that costs $2.00 more doesn't make sense to me. When I get the email from Hannaford with a list of a hundred brand name coupons, nothing interests me because they cost more to begin with.

Speaking of coupons, remember when you would get coupons for 2¢?

I never did the coupon thing. That was my wife's domain.

But I do remember when the bottle deposit was 2¢. 5¢ was for the large bottles.
That was probably 70 years ago.
In those days, 2¢ was worth something. Unless it was my 2¢.

I save a ton of money by not buying a ton of <needless> stuff,
especially on a whim.
I saved $300 this past year just buying normal food stuffs at the grocer we go to.
Sometimes I'll do coupons,
if I remember.

I have to buy cat food occasionally. I generally buy a couple months supply at a time to limit the number of trips. If I buy a lot I get coupons. Sometimes I will remember to take the coupons that haven't expired when I go to buy more cat food. Maybe 10% of those times I remember to present them to the cashier.

With Hannaford, I clip coupons (Hannaford coupons), and when I enter my phone number at the register, they are applied automatically, even if I use the DIY register.

Yes, Giant (locally) has "in store" coupons that are applied at checkout.
Sometimes I'm surprised that I received discounts on various items.

What suckers me in is getting $20 off a $100 order. I don't buy things I don't need, though, and I get $100 worth of food for $80.

With Hannaford, I can order online, go to the parking lot, and someone puts the food into my trunk - for $5.00, discounted as the order gets larger.

Yea, I don't spend more to save money either.
But they're hoping.

When I lived in Phoenix, I shopped at Fry's (Kroger). They had what was - I guess - the same sort of program, so I saved money on items I was going to buy anyway.

My mother clipped 2 & 3 cent coupons 60+ years ago. My aunt used to laugh at her until my mother showed her how much she saved in a month. It would sound like nothing today, but when $20 - $30 fed our family of 5 for a week a little went a long way.

I shop at Food Lion and Walmart. Food Lion automatically takes care of coupons by scanning your 'club' card. They have signs on the shelves to indicate what's on sale and what has a coupon.

Walmart is interesting. If I use my Master Card in the store I get 2% cash back. If I have them bring the items to my car or have FedEx deliver them to my house (free) I get 5% cash back. With Covid restrictions, keeping the number of people in the store down has become serious consideration. Right now the limit is 20% of what the fire regulations allow. They have installed gates with sensors that count the number passing through. The gates lock if the number get too high. At the same time they have a real person with a tablet at the exit keeping track of those exiting. I guess the tablet talks to the gates.

My wife and I shop at Aldi's. 95% stores brands all satisfactory, quality products and they don't issue or use coupons. Their prices are more than reasonable, And if my wife who does most of the cooking likes it all the better'

I learned a long time ago that me, coupons, and the store
were never in the same place at the same time,
unless the coupons were expired, sigh.

Jerry, when you shop, use your American Express card then you can get an additional 3 to 5% rebate. Savings on savings. Eventually they will be paying us to shop places!
