I am pleased it is Thailand and not China.

Me too.

The article asks a good question. Could this be the beginning to the end for Nikon? I got one sure hope not.

Nikon has done the majority of their camera manufacturing in Thailand for over 15 years now. This is only the shift of their one last manufacturing line there as well.
When Nikon started building facilities there Sony also built a sensor factory almost next door just to make sensor delivery simpler.
