Good Morning. I am fairly new to the Hedgehog and look forward to learning more about my passion for photography. Even after 10 years of a lot of photography I have much to learn. I retired this month for a 2nd time after 29 years in federal law enforcement and 15 years running a Forensic Academy for police training at a community college. I also taught college students police photography and after 20Gig or 30,000 photos as a "campus photographer" it is time to move on to one of my favorites, sports photography.
I recently purchased a Nikon Z 6 and a Nikon D500 and love both. I am using a 70-200mm and 100-400mm lens and enjoy both. I have researched for a 300mm prime lens but the F/2.8 lens are big bucks and looking for some advice on options. I have seen some comments on the Nikon 300mm F/4 -new PF model in the $2,000 range and wonder if anyone likes that for sports. I have done basketball, soccer, baseball, wrestling and volleyball but with retirement i may continue with other sports. I am located near Davidson College, Davidson NC so fortunate to be able to see different sports.
I look forward to learning more and viewing any advice from others.

Dale, Welcome aboard. The best way to learn is post images and ask questions. Consider the Nikon 200-500 lens.Have a great weekend.Stan
I agree, take a look at the Nikon 200~500. I get lots of birds in flight with that lens and my Nikon D500. Great camera choice by the way. Love my D500. Welcome aboard!
Welcome. I shoot with a D850 and a D7200. I have been holding off on a sports lens for the prices to come down some as I need a fast lens for indoor swimming. The 2.8's are out of my budget right now. The 200-500 should do nicely if you have plenty of light when you shoot. Have fun!
