Wednesday morning at Alta, UT. Taken from the base of the Collins Lift about 8:30 AM.

I broke my rule about skiing during a holiday because I thought getting there early would avoid the crowded conditions. Stopped early and avoided the crowds, but ended up with a bloody nose and broken thumb. While taking off my skis, I was swept off my feet by a young lady (in a real way, unfortunately).

Mike, I'm sorry to read about your injuries and hope you heal well and quickly. The photos are nice but I think there is an exposure issue with them. There are large areas that contain nothing but featureless white sploches. Maybe blown out?

Hope your thumb heals soon Mike.

Interesting, Bob. I do not see these on my monitor. Can you send me a PM with a description of where you see that?

Thanks, Karin. No big problem. I did not know I had a problem until the thumb turned black and blue.

Mike, Heal quickly. A broken thumb and bloody nose is not fun. Get back on the slopes soon so you can be swept off your feet by a young lady without any injuries. Did they have to put your thumb in a cast?Stan

Ouch! I have been up to the resorts but not to ski. I'm too old for that stuff. I just turned 80. It looks cold. I hope your nose isn't broken and that your thumb heals quickly.

How about a pic of your thumb and bloody nose. It completes the story.

Your post brings back some good/bad memories. During high school and college years I skied at Alta on Thanksgiving Day or the Friday most years. In 1966, a low, early snow year, a friend and I climbed above the Germania lift into the Albion Basin area (before there were any lifts in the area). Of course I fell and ended up with serious spiral break. My friend continued down to get the ski patrol and about 1.5 hours later they made it to me.
Pretty dumb move but at 17 I was invincible of course. No skiing for two seasons and then a good return.

Hope your thumb heals quickly and you are back on the slopes. Still miss Utah skiing after 45 years in the NW.

I don't see that either Mike. Nothing but respect for Bob's input(helped me a few times), they look fine on my screen too.
Heal fast and trust your instincts on holiday skiing apparently...
Glad you got out to ski, hopefully you got a few good runs in before this mishap!

Poor you in the wars again! Hope you heal well. Very good shots Mike, do you think Bob is referring to the snow?

The thumb is in a cast and my biggest issues is typing. Thanks, Stan.

It is cold, Mike (18 degrees at the time of those shots). I am 82 and still love to ski. Thanks for commenting.

Bloody nose is cleaned up, but here is the thumb. The ER doctor wa skiing that morning, so he showed me the X-ray. Note the arrow pointing to the minor break.

Thanks for the memory. As you can see from the thumb shot I posted, it is a very minor break. My real excitement was my first day out in December 2018 when I turned to give my skiing companion some pointers and drove my femur through my tibia plateau. It took me until March 2019 to get back on my skis. My wife has since limited me to single black diamond slopes.
