Not news at all, an opinion (but there is some truth in it). Sony has dominated the FF mirrorless market with no real worthy competition from Nikon or Canon, but the latest Canon R series and RF lenses are state of the art - now it’s Nikon’s turn. Historically, Canon took a very sizable percentage of the pro market from Nikon many years ago with the introduction of the EOS AF mount, even though it really alienated many FD lens/camera owners. Looks like they’re trying the same strategy again. I’m expecting an excellent 2nd gen mirrorless from Nikon also.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Nikon to come out with any earth shaking new products. Reading the latest Company report it appears that the imaging division has had their second 20 billion yen loss out of the three years they were expected to produce 20 billion yen profits. Management has already started reassigning resources to more profitable divisions of the company.

Hardly takes into account Sony, Panasonic and Fujinon, all with seriously good cameras, all with better spec'd sensors than any of the Canons.

Sony is in second place which is pretty good considering they did not exist much more than a decade ago.
Pan and Fuji each have around 5% of the global market...not a threat to anyone...certainly not Canon.
Nikon...well...Nikon is stumbling around...bleeding red.

Maybe a little clarification is in order. Sony has been producing digital cameras since at least 1996. I have several in my desk drawer that are approximately 20 years old. Perhaps you were referring to interchangeable lens cameras?

Sony has been the dominant force in broadcast video for 40 years. If we are talking FF mirrorless they still are way ahead of Canon. And Canon's highest rated sensor is still in 27th place in DxO, far behind many Sony, Nikon and Panasonic sensors.

I'm just talking about global market share.
Canon is first...Sony is second...Nikon is third ... 4/3 is just a blip.

I think before we buy into that 27th place number, we need to consider exactly what is being spec’d/measured. The only thing you can actually measure is DR and high ISO noise unless there’s a way to measure color accuracy, which I have never seen published. I have zero respect for DXO’s sensor measurement for several reasons, beginning with the fact that they regularly (magically) publish DR numbers beyond 14 bits from 14 bit data, which is complete and utter BS. Then there’s there recent admission that they published inaccurate data concerning Canon bodies. I’d much rather trust the data fro Photons to Photos, which has much more accurate DR and high ISO performance data. And that data shows the R6 is within 1/4 stop in DR or high ISO performance of the best Sony (or anyone else in FF) has to offer (see graph below).

Forty years in video is fine, but the resolution of even 4K video is incredibly course compared to the resolution of a modern digital camera, and NTSC video, where 30+ years of their experience stems from is just laughable in terms of DR, resolution and noise, so that’s really not very applicable. On the other hand, Canon has been making fine cameras and lenses for well over 50 years.

They may have some good cameras but I won't be changing back to Canon from Sony just yet, if ever!

Yes, but some companies can weather the storm better than others.
Canon and Sony won't have any trouble...the rest...will.
