Here's some old timey stuff and a bit of History . First of all these locomotives represent all three types of geared locomotives . Geared locomotives are all wheel drive and designed to climb the steep mountains and were mostly used on the lumber railroads . Top speed was around thirty miles per hour as it was not really important . It just had to handle large loads on steep grades , some as much as twelve percent ! So steep in fact there were many switchbacks . Switchbacks were like zigzagging up sides of very steep mountains . These are for each type quite rare in themselves but to have all three at one railroad is quite exceptional . I'm not positive but I think Cass is the only steam railroad to have all three and I think they have at least six Shays ! And the old town where Heisler number six is is in the Town of Durbin West virginia . No big stores , no gas stations , no cellphone service , no red lights , just a couple small shops and a restaurant . Pretty neat ! I think I have become a steam train aholic and hopefully I have all this correct however if I don't my apologies ! Types of locomotives are all on the Bottom of frames . Enjoy !
