For those thinking about ACDSEE, now might be the time. They have a hell of a sale going on right now.

Please forgive my naïveté. When I photographed with film, I never processed my final work. Now with digital, everybody and their uncle are post-processing. I would like to know if I can buy a copy of ACD See without breaking the bank. Can I buy a copy of this program without getting into an argument with my wife? She keeps a tight reign over my GAS attacks.

Steve, it is on sale, $79 lifetime license, and they have subscription plan for $8.90/mo.

https://www.acdsee.com/en/products/photo-studio-professional/buy/

Adobe is only subscription at$9.99/mo.

I use Adobe and love it.

Thank you Frank. Now I have to convince my wife to let me buy a subscription.

Try the trial first and see which one you like. I believe both have a satisfaction guarantee also.. Adobe is subscription only.

How many photos do you have in your photopile? As I age (which I assume you are doing also since the laws of thermodynamics require it) my ability to find photos dropped off sharply when I got over 10,000 images. With digital, that is really easy to do unless you really practice triage strongly.

Lightroom has the ability to organize your photos so its easy to find things. IMHO it's the best program for that because, as a database, it keeps track of files through virtual entries (pointers to the file location). That makes it easy to produce multiple versions of a given image without actually duplicating the original file. It also allows you to store a given image in multiple collections (sort of like folders), again without duplicating the file. Keywords can be applied to images, and searching for a keyword can show you all the images with that keyword in a few seconds (my photopile is around 30,000 now).

Hopefully that will give you one talking point when presenting the need for expenditure to the CFO.

It is said that "digital photos are free". That does not take into account depreciation on the capital expenditures nor maintenance of the ability to find your valuable photos as well as your invaluable photos. However, any hobby worth its salt has a cost, and LR (plus PS) is a relatively low cost for a hobby, particularly when compared with fishing or golf.

You are so correct. As for my wife being the Chief Financial Officer, she is the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operations Officer. She a great wife who runs this house and our family like an army.
I’m waiting for her to command a salute just go get a can of soda out of the refrigerator!

My new wife quickly became the CFO of the family. She has an MBA and I was never much interested in money so I was clueless in financial matters. She is also the CCO (Chief Culinary Officer [I can boil water and just barely wash dishes but I can open a bottle of wine pretty well]), the CHO (Chief Health Officer with an MD), but she lets me run my hobby (she has her checkbook and I have mine). I am the IT guy for both Win10 and her Mac and the beast of burden when it comes to heavy lifting (I have become fairly heavy myself in my old age). I get to feed the cat and chickens (and clean the litterbox and the coop). I split the firewood and lay the fire. I maintain the physical plant. Our specialties complement each other.

I can sneak a can of soda out of the fridge pretty easily when she's not looking.

Just recently passed our 25th. (Months).

You have a lovely wife and I presume daughter.
For what it’s worth, we are both Union Delegates and have been for many years. When she talks everybody listens. She can command her boss to do what she wishes. But she is as gentle as a sleeping lion.
As for me, I have to play diplomat to get things done. We have been married for over 30 years. And I wouldn’t trade anything in the world to change that.

StepDaughter. 29. Also MBA. Working in IT. Living in CO. We were going to visit for thanksgiving but the way things are developing we decided to bag it. Thanksgiving will be 2 of us this year. Maybe zoom or skype or FaceTime.

Always good to learn diplomacy. Wish more people would try.
