I have always bought the OEM battery grip if they are available. I saw that Nikon had built in features in the F4 & F5 that were not advertised, they built them to work with the autofocus feature of lenses that were not yet being produced. I stuck with Nikon accessories as much as possible, and was glad that I did. Same with the dSLRs.

Too bad that Nikon did not plan for a battery grip for the D7500. That leaves only after market products.

I have used Meike.

Yes. Great build quality. The Nikon grip is egregiously overpriced.

Is the purpose of a battery grip just to hold batteries? I just put an extra one in my pocket. I save myself all the problems and expense, not to mention the weight.

The grips are multipurpose. But, each to his/her own.

More "camera" for some people to hold more comfortably.
Easier for long term portrait orientation.

If you have a mediocre camera then you don't need a top line grip. mediocre camera = mediocre grip.

I fully understand why folks buy 3rd party grips. Just look at the cost of Nikon's grips for the D500, D810 and D800. All are at crazy high prices. So a low cost grip does make sense. If someone gets a good price on a used camera does it make sense to fork over hundred's of dollars for a black plastic box. Instead do research like I did and my 2 Nikon grips from Japan off of Ebay for less than $50 each.

Did you have to pay any other taxes when you order a product from Japan, like the battery grips?

Or the camera itself?????
Embedded in the cost of the device maybe, just maybe?

What I don't understand is buying an expensive camera and then buying cheap accessories, if I buy a Canon R5 rest assured the battery grip will be Canon the lenses will be Canon and the batteries will be Canon mind you the filter to on the end the lenses will b Hoya

Mine aren't "cheap" accessories. They are just considerably less expensive than the obscenely expensive Nikon brand. If Nikon priced them competitively then I would buy Nikon. Simple as that.

I'm looking to purchase a battery grip for my Nikon 7500. There seems to be quite a few random brands on Amazon with mixed reviews. Anyone have a reccomendation?

I shoot Professionally as a Portrait Photographer, indoors and out. I use a "MEKE" on my D750.

Believe me, it has been used a lot in the 2 years I've had it. I have (As much as I hate to admit it) dropped it

a few times as well. It has never failed me. I did buy the Nikon version of this, and promptly sent it back

because the MEKE was just as good. It looks, good, built well, works great. I got the one with the wireless

remote. They claim the remote works as far as 100 meters, but I have used it at more than this. Just out of

curiosity, I did measure this with a friend.

I am sure there are others on the market just as well, but I have this one, and use it every day.

Thanks,
Boone.

I have a used canon grip on my 7d, and 3rd party batterys in it. The difference its that Canon makes the grip but they do not make batterys. They buy them rfrom battery makers, The used grip came from KEH. Looks and works as if it was new.

I have to remove my camera battery to insert the grip on my Canon. If there are no batteries in the grip (minimum one), the camera will not work.

Like I reluctantly said depends it seems. Does that mean Canon is still putting their batteries on the front of their cameras? Not in the bottom? So you are saying you dont get extra battery use with your Canon? Pentax and Nikon cameras end up with two useable batteries using the correct Grip. Never owned a Canon other than Printers. All cameras today can take great images. Some different features from model to model and brand to brand. I like Canon in that their menus seem similar to what I have with Pentax. Might be a consideration some day in the future.

That was true for my Nikon D200 grip as well...the interconnection contacts were at the top of the battery compartment. It was necessary to remove the battery compartment door before installing the grip, and the grip held two batteries (or a set of 6 AAs).

This is not the case for Nikon grips for the D300, D300s, D500, D810, and D850. They all continue to use the battery in the camera and a single (optional) battery in the grip. One battery in either location will work just fine. If two are installed, it is a menu option to set which one is used first, and they are depleted one at a time.

Same with Pentax.
