I did not know this type of logging existed.
I found it extremely interesting!!!
The guy that put this video together modeled on his own setup.
It is a little over 41 minutes long.
I split up my viewing time into shorter sessions.
Also, when I was in Yosemite, I saw the Shay locomotive and the turntable at El Portal.
By the way, there wasn't anyone around and I climbed all over that Shay like a monkey!
I don't remember anything said about the logging.

I wonder if they ever had a car get away.

Ah, thanks.
(I kinda skipped some parts.)
Several years ago I visited Yosemite and on the way stopped at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. They have several operational Shay Locomotives that run on a loop track. They talk about how the logging operations were done around Yosemite, but do not go into the detail that the video does. They have "excursion" trains that run and a museum. If you are a "Train Buff" well worth the stop, could easily spend a whole day there. The Shay is a very unique locomotive. Located at 56001 Highway 41, Fish Camp, CA. 93623. 559-683-7273 or
