Many many small and interesting things out there.

While I appreciate the photography shared here it seems very limited. I would imagine there are many interesting subjects that would make very interesting content for this topic other than flowers, bugs and birds. Don’t mean to offend but this category has much more to offer imho.
How about posting some examples???

Okay, this is not a flower, bug or bird.

Does anyone have any suggestions that might open the doors to new ideas

I think the attraction of “flowers, bugs and birds” is twofold. First, they are generally moving to one degree or another, and it takes some degree of skill to achieve a good capture. But most significantly, these are living organisms, and images of them capture the fragile and transient beauty of life.
Having said that, i enjoy fine photography whstever the subject.
The op is talking about close up photography.
Looks like a Periwinkle - I haven't see one of those for many moons. Any small object qualifies for "close-up" or "macro" as long as you have an accurate definition. For macro, that is easy - close-up not so much. A close-up of a large mechanism (like a train) could be taken from a yard away from the object, an insect - not so much.

How about an appropriate Halloween image?
Welcome to the section, Zee. Posting your own examples of close-up photos is encouraged. Come on in, the water's fine 😀
There is a boudoir section. Maybe some close up opportunities there?! Let's see what you've got!?

Attached below these two photos is the list put out by the Facebook Create 52 Photography Group. Thinking a little outside the literal will help you with ideas. I had a lot of fun with "refraction" and "eggs"

Great list, Linda! Here are a few more: crystal ball photography, simplicity and humorous nature.
