The 747 has been in service since 1970 when I was a Navy P-3 flight engineer with Patrol Squadron 91 at Moffett Field in Sunnyvale, California.

I was with Patron 94 (VP-94) "The Crawfishers", NAS NOLA, Belle Chasse, Louisiana in the 70's also.

Wow! That brings back old memories! Back in 1969, I worked at a company just off the north end of the Boeing runway. The were testing take-offs and landings, and it was amazing to stand right under them and look up when they took off. They were so huge, it seemed like they were going to fall right on me, but at the same time, it was awesome to see them from beneath as they flew over.

I see it from such a different perspective. Working for Delta in earlier times and in Cabin Service, I remember what a job to clean. All those bathrooms, especially in the rear of the plane. And the stocking. Strangely enough I loved the job and found great satisfaction in the finished work plus the pleasure of so much activity around and seeing and meeting so many passengers in the"turn arounds". Even the smell of jet fuel.

Try almost 50 years, I have a brother that worked at LAX (Los Angeles Airport) when the first 747 landed there, he even video taped it, I was left in awe.

I was at Edwards AFB when the space shuttle Enterprise made it's first flight from the top of the 747.
