Trying to come up with an idea of what to give my daughters. in-laws, for Christmas. Our shared interest, my youngest grand-daughter. Everything possible screwed up for this photo. First I took my camera bag that day, but had forgotten to put my camera in the bag. Oops. Stuck with only a Samsung Galaxy S9, I used it for what it was worth. I was in manual mode. The sun beaming thru the patio door made this so blown out. The room comes across as black. Skin tones aren't exactly right just somewhat close. Everything about this picture screams wrong but she has such an elegant expression. I rarely see this pose. I see mostly a little girl being a clown, sticking her tongue out or making faces. I love her so much and yes I am extremely biased. As far as she knew grandpa was just playing a game on his phone. What do you grand parents think. Ok or throw away? Thinking about an 8x12 white aluminum print with easel foot from Art Beat Studios.

The black background is nice. You should be able to bring highlights down and adjust white balance. Would you like us to try?

I like it a lot! You got lucky with her charming expression, which accounts for most of the pleasure in seeing this portrait. You might try cropping it a bit. to center her head. There's a little too much darkness above her and to the left. Otherwise, just count your blessings.

Great photo I love the pose (I love candid shots) . Only thing I would do is darken (dodge) on her right side.... It works as is. Good job.

As always, everyone is welcome to work with my photos. I do appreciate what other's see that I may have missed. I really kick the shadows and highlights around to get this. It seemed the more I dropped the highlight, a greenish shadow line appeared on her cheek. I bumped the white balance to get a more natural tone. She has a very light completion. I have so many pictures of her but this one stands out as far as the expression on her face. Quite often she comes out as a blur since she tends to be a perpetual motion machine. LOL.

I think that the S9 also saves a raw file... you may be able to successfully drop the exposure on the face if you can find it. For future reference, there is also a GCam .apx out there for the S9 which saves a .png file for sure.
As to the keep/chuck - as a grandfather, I love the pose. As a photographer-grandfather, I would see if I could recover the raw file and do a little more work. Also please note that it is now a.d. 2020

I believe you are correct. It sounds like a good idea. The candid expression is the reason I kept this photo. Sweet little green eyed blonde.

Yes, I see the problem. No luck on my initial try with Lightroom iPad. Photoshop might do better. Presume you shot it in jpeg?

PS: She looks a lot like my step granddaughter. Unfortunately what she needs for Christmas is two front teeth.

I appreciate the comments. As far as 2020, well, the picture was taken Christmas day 2019 in their home. The date is just a reminder for future days when they try to remember how old she was and when the photo was taken. Not all of us stay sharp in our old age, little reminders like big bold type sure can help. On the computer I just look at the properties. On the wall it's anyone guess.

OK, wow, due to suggestions I just checked my phone. I don't remember raw +jpeg as an option last year. Also image stabilization and a few other features since I acquired this phone. I normally just use the phone as a phone. When I screw up and forget to put the Nikon back in my bag I'm forced to us it but have paid no attention to what any of the updates have done.

Excellent shot - But try what has been suggested. That's one of nice things about digital. You can take a look instantly and if you don't like it delete it or make it better.

Yes, defiantly. I am going to end up taking it into photoshop. LR just doesn't have the capability to do what I want. Going to have to get a little artistic. I wish I had paid attention to phone upgrades and such. The picture was shot as jpeg. I've had the phone for a couple of years, never realized raw became an option. Thank you for the suggestions.

Wish to thank everyone for the helpful suggestions. This was one of those situations where too many mistakes somehow came together to make a fair right. Number 1 lesson learned from the experience, when cleaning the desert off the camera, remember to put it back in the camera bag. All the lenses in the world backed with filters and such are meaningless without the camera. LOL. Thank you all.

If the photo looks good and pleases you then it is not wrong.
If good is not enough and you want the best, then consider doin it again until you get the photo you want.
Professionals use burst mode and take many poses for a reason.
Perfection happens when you keep trying.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I believe the after version should do nicely. Back lit on screen still looks a little blown out but when it goes to hard print the couple stop dampening should render a very nice print. I love the intimacy of the 3rd photo, the only problem, it's the wrong Grandmother. Picture number 4, proof, no mater how shiny the toy, children play with the bubble wrap first! Every body have a great day.
