Using Instagram To Post Images

Am I of the understanding that if you have a Mac, Ipad or Iphone that is the only way to post images to one's Instagram account? If you have a PC (using Windows 10), you cannot upload images directly to Instagram?!?! I've googled to see if there are other options and I have not found a good alternative!?!? Especially a reliable and malware, virus free option. Thanks for your feedback.

I thought I heard of an unsupported desktop app to workaround the phone / tablet requirement. I never looked at the idea in detail. Instead, I've worked a workflow of either a USB cable when recharging or a bulk bluetooth transfer of groups of 5 to 10 newest images into a folder on my phone of all images ready to post to IG. That may cut down on the spontaneous food and selfie pics, but that's not what I'm posting to IG anyways.

Actually, it's quite easy to load images from a computer to Instagram. I do it with my Mac using Safari. I've provided a link to one set of instructions. I believe you can do this with other browsers as well.

With a pc you can right click and choose inspect. Pick the phone looking icon top left, and refresh. This sort of emulates a phone or tablet, but not exactly. Instagram was invented for a phone, but also works on a tablet.

If you change the user agent string on your browser to reflect a mobile device, instagram will treat the session as such. The link below demonstrates how to do it with some narrative behind user agent strings. This is how I upload to my instagram account straight from my desktop. And the best part, it is operating system/browser agnostic, as long as you know how to get to the developer tools in your preferred browser.

Only drawback, if you consider it to be, is that you can't apply instagram filters and such using this method. But I'm guessing the majority of the folks here already have the image how they want it and have no use for the instagram filters.

I use BlueStacks, an android emulator. I run Instagram on it exactly as I would on a mobile device, and can pick images residing on my desktop computer - not problems at all.

i have been using the Vivaldi browser. There is a learning curve but, with a little trial and error, I've had some success. I think Mr Zuckerberg is holding Instagram back a little.
Seems like they want it to be a mobile centered app.

My daughter went on a road trip last year and texted a number of photos from her iPhone, which I used to produce a map showing images of them on the trip. A few images were sent to Instagram and not directly to me by text so I used them.

I was disappointed in the Instagram images. They were not available in high resolution which sometimes made it difficult to cut things out and place them on the map. Instagram may have its uses but keep the limitations in mind.
