AD 1990 - 'DANCES WITH WOLVES' directed by Kevin Costner and starring Kevin Costner and Mary McDonnell premieres in Washington, District of Columbia, USA.

AD 1981 - The LOS ANGELES DODGERS defeat the MONTREAL EXPOS 2-1 to win the NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES three games to two. The games was held at STADE OLYMPIQUE in Montreal, Canada before a crowd of 36,491.

AD 1781 - Forces under the command of British Lieutenant General Lord Charles Earl Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington and the French commander, the Comte de Rochambeau at Yorktown, effectively ending the American Revolutionary War.

Cornwallis refused to face Washington, claiming to be sick at the official surrender ceremony sent Brigadier General Charles O'Hara in his stead to surrender his sword officially. Washington sent Brigadier General Benjamin Lincoln to accept Cornwallis' sword.
