Dark and hazy at the same time so it doesn't lend itself to much in the way of lightening. However, this does reflect reality.

Nice low key. Scotland can have four seasons in 24 hours, as can northern New England. Capturing the look and feel of moody there or here is part of the fun.

Really like this, RG. But I get a nagging feeling that I would like it even more if the boat was just a tad farther right in the image, more away from center. What do you think?

Thank you f4. I like the fact that the boat is central within the framing provided by the reflection and the hill itself. I did crop the original a bit to choose suitable sides for the image. Ideally the boat would be clearly pointing towards the centre line but it's not pointing out of the scene, so that's good enough for me. Thanks for commenting.

OK, decided to give it a quick try. I don't care for the loss of the small cloud close to the right edge, and that was one of my original considerations. The alternative would be to extend the left hand side but that would just be adding more of the same to a fairly plain area of the image. But the boat does suit being slightly right of centre.

Reality does often not make for the best photo. The boat being centered left to right is distracting.

Any lightening results in the haze coming back and my decision was that it would be better without the haze. I think much of the problem that some people have with centered subjects is that we're forever hearing that it's a no-no. That idea serves the purpose of getting us to avoid the common beginner's mistake of centering every subject. But it would be a bad thing only if it was being overdone. I very rarely have a centered subject so I'm quite happy to tolerate it occasionally. Thanks for your comments.
