Little Blue Herons are not plentiful where I go. When you do find them they are quite shy and never get excited or chase/fight with others - they happily tend to their own business. This particular mature one nabbed 3 Crawfish ? in about 20 minutes from a shallow pool that I watched in early mourning low light - the first time I have seen this !
Canon 80D, Canon 400 prime, 1/1000, f5.6, ISO 1600 from monopod with a medium crop.

Yep it's a Crawdad for sure. Great capture. He sure looks proud of himself.

Larry, Great capture. Colorful and sharp.
Looks purple on my screen - great capture though!
Excellent shot of a beautiful bird!!
Thanks for a great picture. LBH are always careful to stay away from people. This one almost looks like a bit too much color saturation vs all I have photographed. But, still 'great'.
Thanks to all so far for commenting. I PP'd this image on a different computer and monitor from what I normally use - and I am now convinced THAT monitor is OFF some. So, I will changing that monitor ! ........
The LBH colors are usually fairly muted, but I did try to make them stand out a bit .....as they can be quite nice in the right light - as was not the case here ......
.
Beautiful detail, Larry! As to color, just consider this his Saturday night, ready for the party shot.
it is too purple , i find also, purples can be blue sometimes. remember film?certain blue flowers would show up purple or different shades of blue than original.little blue herons are blue . great pic either way.

Gary, excellent photo and if you get a chance eat some yourself. I used to go to a little resturant around a WMA I hunted and would have a plate full every trip there. The WMA is called Three Lakes.

Yes, this Crawdad kept him busy for awhile to try and swallow ....!
Absolutely great shot - but on the purple side.

Nice shot, my first thoughts were, "now what?"
