p.13 I look at all these and think "This is what happens when you do nothing or don't maintain a place - things fall apart" Sort of like life - takes effort to maintain yourself, a life, loved ones, a home. But if you don't you wake up some day to rotted windows and relationships wondering "how did this happen?" My soap box for today.

p. 14 Amazing to me that 1) they stood, 2) they were used and 3) parts still remain

These images are of the abandoned hospital wing and living quarters at Ellis Island - the place where thousands of immigrants first set foot in The New World. We took a "hard hat tour" a couple years ago. It was fascinating as well as informative. The architecture and some of the statistics were astounding.

Many separate buildings used for different purposes. At one time the grounds were occupied by the USCoast Guard. When they left, they left all as it was - including the bell on the lawn

Dee's mother at age 2 and grandparents probably walked some of those same halls in 1923 when entering from Czechoslovakia.
