Hi everyone, I stumbled upon this forum today & felt it was worth adding to the suite of Photo forums I browse :)
A little about me:
I was a moderately keen photographer back in the 1980s & 90's but gradually drifted away after getting my first digital cameras (compact models from 0.3MP to 3MP) There wasn't enough of the optics for me to play with so these only suited snapshots.
Round about 2010 I found a used DSLR that was within my disposable income & had features good enough to convince me, since then I've got the photobug back - far more than ever. I joined a local photo graphic workshop & have been helping run it since 2011.
I'm keen on adapting legacy lenses, shooting outside the visible range, & basically playing with related optics. My old DSLR has been added to, so that I now have 10 interchangeable lens digital cameras (in 3 format sizes & 4 mounts) and over 200 lenses. I've also added in some extra film cameras from 110 to 5x4 & even a digital microscope. Strangely very little of my kit is from either Canon or Nikon.
Outside of photography I work running the analytical laboratory in a specialist oil refinery. A fairly technical role that allows me to use the UV/visible spectrometer to get a better idea on how filters/lenses work in the UV/IR regions. Most years one of the perks of my job has been testing racing fuel at the track to make sure none of the teams are cheating. In 2020 this hasn't been so much fun as I've had to stay in the garage & can't go out to photograph racing between testing sessions.
At home I have a lovely wife & three plus teenagers none of whom like me pointing a camera at them :(
Greetings Petrochemist
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome ! ......you should be a good asset to the forum . I am a Metrology technician calibrating hydrometers and mass. I suspect you use highly calibrated hydrometers in your fuel testing........
.
Thanks everyone.

Hydrometers are one of the tools we use in the lab, but at the race track it's Infra Red spectroscopy, giving absorbance spectra due to resonances with chemical bonds.
Evaporative losses show significantly with hydrometers & these can happen legitamately while the cars are on the track, fortunately the spectra don't vary much from this and we will get correlations of better than 99.9% unless the fuels been contaminated.
