American Wigeon male - Mareca americana
This little guy was cruising and occasionally tipping up to snatch plants in the shallow water. They eat mostly plants, floating plants, bottom plants in shallow water and will graze on dry land. Their short bill is sharp on the tip for cutting off stems.
During breeding season they add insects and small aquatic creatures to their diet. Especially females laying eggs.
This image is early December in a park lake. Our area is a wintering zone for them.
They adapt to parks very well, especially when people don't obey the "Do Not Feed The Ducks" sign when they happily join the Mallards, Muscovey and other water birds at the park in mobbing the feed and the feeder.
