This is a focus stacked image of a Mayfly that has dried out. I thought that its wing would make an interesting subject as a study of color and textures.

Thanks, Tinusbum. I did this one on a wing-and-a-prayer.

oh, man, this is way cool. You keep finding new ways to impress. Now, mayflies will be difficult since they are so fragile that they will shrivel as they dry out. But a freshly demised one can show an interesting thing which is the wings have a distinctive "pleated" topography, like a fan. And with the right lighting it would be very striking. Beautiful small things are everywhere. 👍!

Thanks, Mark. I view your reply is the ultimate compliment. My way of learning and inching toward improvements is through brute force of constant trying and experimenting. I imagine that I am lucky not to be a bomb technician! My grandson caught this while we were on vacation last week and he left it in kill-jar. It had dried yet retained its form, wings, antenna and tail piece. This is how other worldly it looked with its collapsed eyes and mummified flesh.

Thanks, Kpmac. I'm feel like a shark that has to keep swimming or it will sink and die so I have the urge to stay behind the camera.

Mark,
You're a walking encyclopedia of entomology. How come you so?

Small critters seen as looking through a microscope are always interesting.

Thanks, I've found the 5X objective to be a sweet-spot for me for the way that I stage the specimens. I enjoy staging them so that I can highlight the features that I find of interest on them. Of course the smaller specimens will fit completely in the frame. I always shoot with a magnification to fill the frame of the camera so that there is no need for cropping.

This objective can go from 3.5X to 6X with 5X as its most sharp and clearity benchmark so I most often keep it there.

Thanks, Napabob. I'm always looking for subjects that have something of interest to share.
