The Snail and the Spiders

While walking around the yard today I had planned on photographing some roses that had seen better days. While going there I stopped to check on a huge cactus tree and saw a snail on one of the branches. There he was right in plain sight with fantastic lighting just waiting to be photographed. I went into the house to grab my trusty Nikon D800 and f105 Micro lens only to have my wife ask me to do a chore.

By the time I got back outside, about 20 minutes later, the snail had gone elsewhere. I finally found him tucked securely among the branches. I did get two photos I like. Walking back to the house I spotted two spiders near my garage door.

What do you think?

The second spider was hanging from a thread and though I nudged him a couple of times to get him to spread out and move he kept going back into let's say a fetal position as you see. The first spider was on my garage door spread out.

Thanks for the comments and for looking.

πŸ‘ Definitely something wrong with the 2nd spider, though.

I think so too OR he was just in a bad mood. I poked him gently to sort of get him to move and he straightened out then curled up again. Are they the same kind of spider? I like photographing them but don’t know much about them. I call them cute little hairy scary things.

The spiders are seeking you out now Dennis. We have a lot around here at the moment but not much variety in them. I always see them when my camera is indoors. I hope you and the family are all well and keeping away from the virus.

You may be right Brenda. A few days ago I saw a black widow on my backyard sliding doors and then yesterday one above the front door. Then the ones I submitted photos. Tomorrow I will be 3000 miles away in Pittsburgh, PA. Let's see what happens there.

Nice set. Never put off photography for chores. (Hope my wife doesn't read this).

Thank you very much. You are correct. That snail was out in perfect light and walking/crawling/slushing right toward me. What a fantastic National Geographic cover photo that would have been. Snails in Santa Barbara the title would have read. Then my wife and a chore woke me up. Darn...
