What COVID-19 has taught me

If these last months have taught us anything, it’s that stupidity travels faster than any virus on the planet, particularly among politicians and bureaucrats.

Just wait a second – so what you're telling me is that my chance of surviving all this is directly linked to the common sense of others? You’re kidding, right?

Common sense can be our worst enemy. "Of course the world is flat. Just look at it."

I thought I would read your personal ‘lessons learned.’ Was this a troll?

Not a troll, just lessons learned in an email from a friend that I thought I'd pass along.

or about distancing, or about having 'fun' in crowds, or about sanitizing hands.

I assume he is talking about the greatly hyped hysteria over this corona virus that never occurred with others, such as swine flu. It is killing approximately .26 % percent of the population and confined mostly to those elderly with multiple underlying health conditions which would likely cause their demise shortly.

Many more deaths are connected to this virus than to the annual flu, even to the Swine Flu.

And your ability to stay out of their way.

According to the latest statistics, worldwide the COVID-19 has caused death in 3.6% of 20,600,000 cases. Also, reports are coming in that it is becoming more prevalent in younger people and children.

So, the elderly with underlying health conditions which may cause their demise shortly, are unimportant? Are they to be disregarded because of having lived a long life? Maybe you will change your opinion in another 20 or 30 years, if you live that much longer and if the COVID-19 doesn't take you.

At last count (about a month ago) 840 healthcare workers alone have died and 92 more were still being investigated to determine cause. Would they have also died soon? And that .26% is just so far - it goes up each and every day. 1600 more just yesterday.

Here in Alberta the average age of COVID-19 deaths is 83. Life expectancy is 82. That being said we are experiencing more cases in those under 40.

Death toll is now way over 160 thousand. Probably it will hit 200,000 or more. Viet Nam, in all the years of war for us, we hit 57,000 plus. How many years did that take? The COVID virus, not a flu, has taken only several months. Hard to believe people still argue about masks, distancing, etc.
But, why worry, as Alfred E Neuman used to say (Mad Magazine), it’s just a hoax. Yeah, that’s right, just a hoax.
How many families are affected by those deaths? What is the financial cost to those who lost a breadwinner? What about others needing access to hospitals? We’re losing medical personnel at a horrific rate. What about Teachers, guidance counselors, Principles, bus drivers, etc. So many don’t seem to care if old people die from it. Children come home from school and “donate” it to parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, friends and acquaintances. College football, Pro Football, baseball, basketball, etc. teet ering on the brink of shutting down. Minor leaguers losing careers and subsistence pay. Restaurants closing. Clearly I could go on and on and on. You fill in the blanks.
I hope a lot of big personal injury firms line-up to sue government officials for their negligence. All those release forms are not worth the paper they are printed on for 2 reasons, at least. 1) You cannot legally waive negligence. 2) These, in most instances are contracts of adhesion, meaning they were forced to sign them. When that doesn’t hold up, revert to #1. These officials know the truth and have access to scientific and medical expertise not everyone has. This is what Tort Law is all about. It is designed to discourage those who would otherwise be reckless, negligent and Intentional in putting others at risk when these damages were reasonably foreseeable. The use of these forms is, in and of itself, evidence that the injuries were foreseeable.
But, I digress. After all, the more than triple Viet Nam deaths, by this virus are simply a hoax. Don’t let’em fool you. This will all simply disappear in a few days. Wait until the warm weather is here. Yep, that will end this little annoying thing. Just a hoax, anyway, y’heah?

Here in Indiana, 28.6% who get Covid-19 are under 30, while only 13.8% are over 69. The median {half below, half above} age of those who test positive is somewhere in the 40 - for those who die the median age seems to be about 80.

Remember that we are still learning about the long-term affects of infection; several previously-healthy college football players now have heart issues, for example.
