Hi hogs. I learn so much from you all! Right now I have an issue that I'd like to ask about. My Nikon d7500 will not turn on. I've changed the battery out, nothing. I did note the small indicator light on the back under the "ok" button briefly came on at one point, but only once. Any suggestions? Thank you for the help!

I had that happen once (on a Canon) - and the problem was the battery charger. Said it was full-up, but the battery was dead empty. Sounds like your camera's internal battery/capacitor (the back-up that keeps a tiny bit of juice flowing to retain your setting when your camera has been turned off) has just enough to give a similar indication. Nikon may be different, but if you know another Nikon shooter with the same battery, or have a camera store nearby, give them a try...

Good luck!

When did you first notice this?

When you have the battery in the charger, the green light on the charger should be blinking until the battery is full at which time it stops blinking. Did it get to that point when you charged the battery?

It's normal for the memory card access lamp under the OK button to come on for just a second. It does that when you insert a battery or insert a memory card.

@TonyBot I have 3 batteries and keep them charged and ready. None work in the camera.

@jd750 I used the camera on Sunday. Today (Wed) is the first time needing it again and found the issue.

@CO yes, I put 2 batteries in the charger just to be sure I had full charges. The lamp indicator on my charger stopped flashing after a very short time which indicated to me that my batteries were, indeed charged.

Hmmm. Doesn’t sound good. You switch it on you get nothing? No error messages in the display?

Well if the battery charger was indeed defective, it might indicated charge when the batteries were not charged. Then all three batteries would show the same symptom In the camera. Do you have another camera you can use to check one of the batteries?

I hate to suggest it but if your batteries check good, you can always try a reset. First try removing the batteries for a period of time, maybe 10 min or so. Next try doing a reset to factory settings.

Here is how to do it:

If none of that works maybe contact Nikon?

@JD750 my other (backup) camera uses different batteries, so, no. I know the last time I used the camera I still had a full battery. One thing I just noticed, the base of the camera is warm with the fully charged battery inserted. I just removed the battery thinking I'll reinsert it in the morning to see if that makes a difference. Who knows.

@JD750 right, no error message, no lights, no action. Completely dead. I will try the reset idea if I have to. Wondering if that will even work when there seems to be no spark in the camera at all. Thanks for the link and the help.

Take the battery out of the camera and peer into the battery compartment under a strong light with the intention of examining the battery contacts there to see if something like a bit of fluff or paper etc is in the way of a good contact with your fully charged battery. Other than that a trip to your Nikon service center would seem in order.

@NikonRocks thanks, I did look into the battery cavity and at the contacts. Everything looks clean. Placed a battery in this morning after leaving it out over night and still nothing. I'm so disappointed. I bought this camera from B and H not even a year ago as a referb. It had less than 100 shutter actuations and was basically brand new. I'm extremely careful with my things as well.

If you have a volt meter, check the voltage of the battery to assure it is fully charged.

I think the camera has to be on before reset will work.

@Steve33 I was wondering about that and how it could work if the camera isn't powered up. My husband is working at checking my charger output voltage and batteries. Fingers crossed.
