These steps lead up a trail to a popular spot just North of Goleta, CA, called Nojoqui Falls. After taking photos of the Falls and my 12 year old granddaughter I stopped on the downward side of these steps and thought they would make an interesting photograph.

Now the question is, what do you think?

A very serene photo of one with nature. Mahalo for sharing.

I think the shadows/blacks could be less murky. Alternately, I think that if the highlights were lowered somewhat, and the image converted to b&w, it would have more character.

The above may sound negative, or worse, somehow dismissive. I don't intend it to be that way. Its simply what I see.

I think it's a terrific photo, except the highlights on the steps could be backed off just a touch. But do not go b/w you would lose how the green fades into black and gives a scary, mysterious touch.
But then I don't like b/w on 99% of the photos.

I truly appreciate your comments. I asked for the good and/or bad and you have given me a pretty good review with the exception of something I can work on. I can't ask for much more than that. I saw nothing negative or dismissive, just an honest appraisal of my photograph in your opinion. Thank you very much.

Thank you Tramsey for your comments. I did try it in black and white and did not like it much. I like the greens too. I will see how backing off the highlights does.

I like this a lot. My suggestion for improvement is the near-black are in the middle left of the image. For me, too much area without any detail. Try lightening just this area, and see what you think.

I wonder if the steps were put there back in the 30's by the CCC?

I honestly have no idea. I haven't seen anything in the area making mention of that.

I appreciate you taking a look and commenting. Unfortunately I have no PP program that will allow anything but lightening the entire photograph.

If your 12 year old granddaughter was standing with her feet right where the dark area begins, it would be great! Put her there!

I would love to do that but we won't be going up there again for at least a year. She will be on her way back home in a couple of days.
