I just realized that I haven’t seen any posts from Floyd in a long while now. The last time he posted was January, 2019. Does anyone have any info on him? I really miss seeing his responses.

You like seeing people flaming and insulting one another?

Okay, my honest opinion of Apaflo is that he put his heart into his work and did a service by documenting the lives of the native people where he lived. Some thought his photos amounted to snapshots. Some of the criticism was very nasty. This would set him off, and the exchanges were the kind that you really don't want to read here. I exchanged some private messages with him a few years ago about his work. He was proud of it.
I hope he is okay.

Floyd and I used to have (sometimes heated) technical discussions on things like digitizers and resolution, and he was, let us say tenacious and not fun to disagree with, but I found him generally technically competent. He and Scotty had some epic battles that went on for many, many pages - not pretty, but sometimes informative. I hope he is OK also.

I notice that his web site no longer exists. I could not find any obituary on him. I don't think he would have given up his work unless something is wrong, perhaps illness. He wasn't an "I give up" kind of guy. This is just speculation.

Thank you for your response. I did that same sort of “investigation”, and was relieved not to have found an obituary. I even checked voter registrations records! His website kept coming up with one of those “no longer available” type messages. I also sent him a PM several days ago. Not only has he not responded, but it’s still showing as “unread”. My fear is that something is definitely wrong. I sincerely hope not! In the meantime, I’m going to keep on “investigating”.

It was from those technical discussions of his that I learned so much when I was first learning digital photography. He really knew his subject. And I do recall those epic battles that you mentioned. If I learn anything definitive about what’s happening with him, I’ll post it on the Hog.

Does Admin not have regular contact with Section heads?

I really don’t know, but that’s a thought. Admin might know something and I’ll consider contacting Admin. Thanks for the idea.

No. Admin has no reason to stay in contact with volunteer-managers unless someone alerts him to a problem. Donolea and TheeGambler were still listed as PP Forum managers for more than a year after they disappeared. There are other sections similarly out of date (on the page called "all sections").

Karen, I understand how it feels to lose touch with someone you've come to know on UHH. It's hardest when we don't know what happened. Take care.

That is too bad.
I'm surprised he doesn't at least 'touch base' with them on occasion.

Thanks, Linda. Floyd just seems to have fallen off the earth. I hadn’t even realized that he hadn’t posted for so long until the subject of Barrow came up last week during a conversation with my sister-in-law and her husband. You confirmed what I’d already thought about the contact between Admin & section managers.

If there are no complaints lodged to Admin, why would he? The overwhelming majority of traffic is in Photo Gallery and main discussion forum. Dat's where de money is, bro'

Well for the next ten weeks or more, there may be almost as much traffic in this Section.

More to the point, I hope the volunteer managers and their realms are also important to him -
there is more to life than money.
