Whenever a teacher's union contract comes up for renewal, it's not about the money, IT'S ABOUT THE KIDS.....

The teachers union is the single worse thing to happen to the educational system. They insure that the worst teachers remain in the classroom or collect a paycheck even when they not teaching

I know you are saying that with tongue completely in cheek. It is never about the kids. Did I say NEVER?

I thought I was saying the same thing, but I forgot to put in a smiley face.

Sure, teachers work to become teachers because of the high paychecks and summers off.
Everybody knows that.

Many in my family are teachers and damn good ones too. Every one of them has spent thousands of dollars of their own money helping to provide children whose parents apparently don't believe in supplying the kids with minimal school supplies needed to learn.

I have seen the teachers in my family stay up nights until 1:00 AM grading papers or doing their lesson plan and then up at 5:00 to get ready for another day. I know exactly how some teachers work their asses off for the children. But those teachers in my family h**e(d) the teachers union as it was all about getting more money for the teachers. While the needs of children are always claimed just prior to going on strike very little of the money actually goes to the needs of children.

As you most likely know, getting the summer off isn't exactly what it is cracked out to be. In my experience teachers are asked if they want to be paid a 12 month salary or a 9 month salary. The end result is the same.

Many in my family are teachers and damn good ones ... (show quote)

My comment was satire.
I have many dedicated, children-caring teachers in my family as well. I believe teachers are under paid and under appreciated in this country. I further believe spending more money to educate young people in this country would be money well spent, and should be a larger priority.

I don't necessarily disagree but as you might know that money allocated for the kids rarely gets to the kids. I believe it is also a proven fact that the richest schools with greater amounts of money going to the children's needs are not necessarily the best schools for kids. It is the teaching staff that make the difference rather than the amount of money spent on the kids; up to a point.

My best wishes to the teachers in your family,

Dennis

I agree 100%. That goes for all of today’s unions .

Teaching should be a professionally managed career just like engineers. No tenure !

Professional registration required thru licensing test.

I agree; however, more money would either go to the government or to the Unions, neither of which doesn't know how to spend it wisely.

Government spending: In California, the poop patrol folks can make $70,000 a year.

Isn't interesting, that whenever a school budget is v**ed down ...... it is ALWAYS because people without children in the school system v**ed against the budget .....
