I have used Acronis Disk Imaging software for many years, but have just gotten into an annoying situation.
Acronis issued a beta version of Acronis 2021and invited users to try it. I had to uninstall Acronis 2020, install the new version and make all new backups. (three hard drives, and a double copy of each.) Now I get a notice that my "trial version of Acronis 2021 is ending in a few days and I will have to uninstall 2021 and reinstall the 2020 edition. After a chat with tech support, I am told that the back ups I made with the 2021 beta software will not work with 2020, and I will have to create all new backups. Several hours of work for nothing.
No solution except to warn others about trying beta versions. [particularly of Acronis.]

Well, that pretty much sucks!
They should have warning about that, to let users know before trying the beta version.

You have just struck the two biggest problems of this world (or the people in it anyway). They are - total lack of communications and an ability to make some really stupid assumptions.
I stopped using Acronis (and went to Macrium Reflect) several years ago after being bitten by some Acronis assumptions. Mileage varies of course.
I have Acronis 2020 too . I haven't received any notice of a trial for 2021 . Thanks for the heads up . But I don't think I would upgrade any ways when it comes out , or try the beta now . There would have to be something really better to spend the money over version 2020 .Thanks again for letting us know

The lesson of course is that BETA is unfinished....I learned long ago while working, to stay away from beta versions unless testing on unneeded hardware containing unneeded software.

There are always risks when playing with a BETA version

I fully agree. I dumped ACRONIS several years ago due to unreliable and unpredictable operation.
I now use Macrium Reflect and have NEVER had any issues what so ever .......

FWIW - Best to use software that simply COPIES files, and not software that creates a compressed single file of all the files in the backup, locking you into that particular software to maintain & recover.

Thanks for the response. I did download and try Macrium Reflect 7, free edition. It was fairly easy to use and make my first backup. Have you had occasion to try a restore with Macrium. If so, what was your experience.
After using and suffering with Acronis for many years, to switch now almost feels like an act of infidelity, but may be interesting to try.

I used to use Acronis from I think v8 onward. They got so bloated that backing up simple took a long time. The older versions I could and have depended on. The newer versions not so. Errors. I started using Macrium Reflect both paid and free versions and have used both to reinstall my operating system and files. Never a problem. I recommend getting away from Acronis.
After several e-mails to different departments at Acronis, they finally responded by assigning a serial number to my beta copy and stated that the beta would not expire until the final edition is ready for release.
One feature I like about Acronis, is the protection they offer to the back up files. In present issues, you can lock the backup files so that they cannot be altered or deleted with you taking action. In the new beta edition, they claim to have protection software built in to protect the data from ransomware or a virus.
I suspect I will continue with Acronis despite the difficulties. Like dealing with a cantankerous teenager.

Thanks. I'm thinking seriously about a change to Macrium.
