8-spots & my favorite ... a Flame Skimmer. They have arrived! I can't figure out what he is eating, and when I got a closer, clearer shot, the meal was over.

I wonder if the Flame Skimmer is the western counterpart to the Needham's skimmer found in our area. All beautiful shots, Victor, and I thought at first the dragon's lunch could have been a bee, but now not so sure...

Thanks Donna. I think you may be right about the bee. There are currently loads of small black bumble bees on the teasels.

The Flame Skimmer gets as far as Kansas, and as both are Libellula you are probably right. I don't know what the range is for Needhams, or if they overlap.
