Sadly I think if people who are experiencing problems are using a Windows computer. On Macs there are far fewer.

I have a windows computer, have not had a problem with Luminar 3 or 4. I also have Aurora, no issues at all.

I downloaded the free trial this week, and have been using it to enhance a few photos that were pretty declent except for bland sky. Wow! What a difference the sky replacement made! I will probably purchase when the free trial ends. I’m using it on a windows computer.

It is a nice complement to LR for changing the mood of photos...and the sky replacement doesn’t work quite as easily as their marketing examples for real world scenes... it it does work. You have to be careful about matching colors and edges though...there is also a group here that decries sky replacements as fake...and another group that says if you have a boring sky today but there was a nice one yesterday replacing is just fine. Me...I’m whatever you like kinda guy.

OTOH...their management stuff sucks...stick with LR.

I've used it since the 2018 model. It was okay until the latest undate (4.3). It wouldn't go so I removed it and tried to reinstall it. But NO version of 4 would install and neither would Luminar 3. Now the only working model I have is the 2018. So far all I've received from their support is generic instructions on how to install 4.3 -- that which I cannot do.

I got these instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling. It worked for me.

Thanks for reaching us. Please try reinstalling Luminar. We recommend doing a full uninstall with AppCleaner. AppCleaner is a free app that automatically removes not only applications but also the related files, making 'clean' uninstall easy.

1. Download AppCleaner from here (do a search for this).
2. Install AppCleaner and start it.
3. Drag Luminar from your Applications folder into the AppCleaner window.
4. When removing Luminar, mark all the files and folders on the list, except for W788AXG3.com.skylum.luminar4
5. Once you've uninstalled Luminar, restart your Mac.
6. Download a fresh version of Luminar following this link: https://downloads.skylum.com/luminar4/mac/Luminar4.dmg (mac file)

I am trying to decide if Luminar 4 is worth buying or not...I would want to use it for sky replacement mostly...

will there be any advantages to adding Luminar 4 to my battery of Post Processing Software.

Thanks for your input

I have a Lenovo gaming computer with I7, 16GB RAM & a 4GB card or the minimum requirements for some current Topaz products.
The short answer for me is that I like Luminar 4 and, for what I use it for it works great!
I updated the program this week and now it will not open first try.
Now I double click the Luminar 4 icon, wait for 20-30 seconds while watching the hourglass spin.
Then I open the task manager, end the task.
Then I immediately double-click on the icon again and the program opens within seconds.
The "Library" function still needs some work so I take charge and maintain my own files.
I guess that I could learn or get used to how the "Library" function works. Nah, I'd rather complain, haha.

Now for the good:
Luminar 4.3.0 has the following functions:
"Essentials" or the typical PP functions.
"Creative" which has "Sky Replacement" that works great. Do not purchase the "Optional Skys", just go outside and take pics of the sky that you like. The other "Creative" settings may also interest you. It also has a "Landscape Enhancer" that works wonders in minutes.
"Portrait" settings are great for me as I like being able to make changes rapidly. I'm not a fan of spending 20-30 minutes removing blemishes, sliming a face, adding Hi-Key lighting, etc.
"Professional" These settings are for those that agonize the smallest details and want to be chained to a computer processing hundreds of pics.
No, I'm not judging my UHH friends. This is just my opinion.

For the price, I get the functions I desire.
I also use Photoscape X professional and five wonderful Topaz products.
The bottom line, Luminar 4 is a good (not great) value for me.
Try the trial Luminar 4 just like CHNG_CANON (Mr. Always Good Advice) recommended.

If you purchase Luminar 4, and are looking for tutorials, I recommend this YouTube Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/c/JimNix/videos

I watch this channel to learn about Luminar 4, I have no affiliation or connection to Jim Nix, I just like his tutorials

There's a known issue with Luminar 4.3 affecting many users (including myself) which prevents the program from getting past the splash screen. Skylum is aware and said they're working on a fix.

FYI - I tried every solution presented in their support forum and none worked. I was able to revert back to 4.2 after using CCleaner to uninstall and clean the registry, and that version is is working fine. If you're looking into purchasing Luminar for the first time, download the trial version and if it works okay you should be good to go.

Thanks everyone. As usual some great advice and comments.

Last year I downloaded the trial version and only looked at it for a few minutes. Then got distracted and the trial expired.

It is not very expensive so I think I will buy it and give it a go. Not much to lose.

Once again, thanks all

Chuck

I have Luminar 4 as well as PS, LR and Capture One. Luminar is a good editor but for me it has lights and shadows. For me the main drawback is the use of masks that are not re-editable and this affects the workflow. But it has many good things. Almost all the algorithms are by AI which makes them very fast and precise. So editing a RAW file in Luminar 4 is very easy and fast. The replacement of skies is very fast, although it is necessary to work more to give it an aspect that does not seem an addition to the photo. And finally the object deletion algorithm is fantastic and I think it is better than the PS one. If you want a fast editor and don't mind working with layers and skins, this is a good editor for you.

Have had Luminar & Affinity for awhile now.
It finally enabled me to pull the plug on my Adobe LR/PS subscription. I never used PS, and was continually frustrated by its learning curve despite attending several tutorials on it. I liked LR, but never came close to using all of its functionality, though it was more intuitive than PS.

I like Luminar and have been using it from the beginning. But 4, wow, I'm having a lot of buggy problems with it; way more than version 3. It's super slow - even the latest upgrade - and sometimes doesn't open at all (I use it as a Lightroom plug-in). I've been extremely disappointed.

I like the program a lot. But, since the upgrade to Luminar 4 have been unable to install plug-ins into PSE. I have tried every way that I can think of. With no success.

Very good for skies, and good for presets, too. Worth it for sure.
They might have a trial version....

I tried the trial as a plug in and it was slower than slow. I could not get it to work with photoshop. Support did not even ask why I uninstalled it.

Same problem I am having. Tech support sucks. It has become such an important part of my work flow that I am using it as a stand alone. Remember it will replace the sky with almost any background. Try a bright plaid sometime
