It tells the story of a photographer who was able to blend some complementary tones into an intimate, and yes, a very appealing scene.

Very nice in intriguing photo, Brent. It says two things to me: 1. A mother and child experiencing time together in nature, this can be expanded on. 2. They're on a beach with rock cliffs around. I hope they know the tide schedule. I'd rather not think or expand on that.

Beautiful! I see a Mother's love in the way she is holding her child and the billow of her skirt says that she is ready to withstand any storms for that child. Just what I see.

Was this a chance catch photo?

It's the story of the wonder of nature in the warm arms of someone who loves you. It's the story of feeling safe in a place where a big world around us expresses danger as well as beauty. It is a story of love and it is a photo of beauty and you are right it does need a story. Nice!!!

The allure of art, including photography, is to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. If it doesn't, then there is no viewer, no art and nothing happens. This scene, in and of itself, evoked that response in Brent, who used his considerable skills to capture it and share it with us. For some of us, nothing happens, for others we are attracted to the image because it also evoked emotions in us which we all interpret differently with our own "stories". The image shows two pairs of tracks meeting up the beach at which point some exchange took place between the two which cause the woman to pick up the child. We can all imagine why this might be, but maybe she's just pointing out where the last person to raise these issues is buried.

I see it as an image with great insight, mother telling/teaching her daughter about nature. Great image Brent.

IMO, if that’s what you see, that’s the story.
There’s no right or wrong.

Honestly the first thing that came to my mind was: “I’m not sure how we got on this patch of sand surrounded by water but I think we’re in big trouble”😳

Thought so, because unless the photographer states something, different people will perceive a different story.

True. And even if the photographer states something, you or I may see something entirely different.

I agree with this too!
