Indeed they do have a harsh sting. even the small ones. They usually don't sit still either. Nice shots.

Nice study, especially # 2. But, indeed, it does not 'look happy' with it's rt legs tucked in, head on the ground, and antennae motionless. Usually, the antennae are constantly twitching if they are 'happy'. But # 2 is an excellent overall picture of a mutillid. Just had one with the b & w abdomen stripes, but it never stopped moving, and I got no pics at all.
