Click Beetle

I found this Click Beetle on the floor while looking at a possible home for my daughter and I put it in my pocket and brought it home where I staged it for a focus stacking session.

It was quite dirty and I washed it in our ultrasonic jewelry cleaner with distilled water and a few drops of Dawn Liquid Dish Soap and it came out quite clean and none the worse for wear.

Thanks, Mark. Cleaning it helped a lot and the ultrasonic cleaner did a great job of it however I'd only use it on hardshell specimens.

I believe that I finally came up with a lighting technique that is working for me through what seems like endless experimentation. I'm also using exposure control more often to control bright and hot spots and although each session is a bit different from the next, I'm beginning to get a feel for adjusting it now.

Thanks, Tinusbum. I'm starting to get the hang of this now little by little. For a while there I thought that I was going to be like Mosses and wander around for 40-years and ultimately never make it.

Thanks, Kpmac. Thankfully it's a never ending journey and for each one there is the thrill of adventure for I really don't know how they will turn out. This one consists of 309 images with each one having a flat depth of field so all that I see is a blur with only a small point of it in focus. It takes about an hour for the stack to process and I watch as it builds ever so little layer by layer.

Then if its a dud I delete it and do another.

I am thinking that you could make a success of anything you did. Such great attention to detail comes naturally and willingly to you. Well done.

Thanks, Brenda. All it takes is to have great mentors as those here that provide great advice and great encouragement. The rest comes from persistence, accepting failures as a challenge to try something different and of course a large amount of luck.
