Blending a "glow" layer in Darken Mode

I sometimes use AKVIS Neon [Feather Edges preset] to add some glow to some of my flowers. I was experimenting with blending modes one day and saw that the Darken mode had some lovely effects. I've used it a few times since then.

To use Darken mode for a lighter glow seems like it wouldn't work.

Yep, seemed counterintuitive to me, too, but it looked pretty good, so I went went with the flow.
