Thanks, Larry for hosting a Free Challenge Weekend. If you were looking for "Yard Birds" with Sunnybuck, it was necessary to switch challenge calendar dates; "Yard Birds" will appear for week of 7/27-7/31.

In my film days a multiple or double exposure was something you didn't want to see. Now there are multiple ways to create them purposefully and artistically in camera or in post. Smart phones have a number of apps to accomplish the same thing.

This article has some excellent examples, tips and images: https://digital-photography-school.com/multiple-exposures-camera/

I'll start off with a few images taken using the multiple exposure feature in my camera. And 2 images fused in my smart phone. The challenge is finding shots that will merge well together. In future posts, I'll show some created in post (layering, really) and how I used them.
Thanks, Larry for hosting a Free Challenge Weekend... (show quote)

Very good start, Pat. Thanks for the challenge. If my Sony alpha 99 has an in camera multiple exposure within it's list of bells and whistles I haven't found it yet. I've worked a few layered shots and modified the ampacity of the top layers to partially view what's under it. Meanwhile I'm still looking for the in-camera stuff.

Thanks. I was happy to see a call for something I've been doing for 20 years or so. Like you said, it's all in finding images that work together. I've spent a lot of time trying different combinations to finally find one that's really good. I also do a lot of work after combining them involving lightening or darkening sections of each layer to make things come forward or go back, since it's on Lighten mode.

It's a lot of work and takes an artistic eye. I likely will never take it to a level near yours, but I find I like it. It's also a challenge to try something different.

I like the last one the best, because it's the least obvious it's a multiple image. When I did multiple exposures in the film days, I did something similar, shooting the same thing several times handheld, so each was a little askew. I also sometimes did double exposures of the same thing in focus and out of focus. It gave a little glow to the highlights.

I;ll have to try that - in and out of focus.

Nice start up Pat and thanks for hosting. Really like that last one almost ghostly!!

Haven't done any multiple with dslr's yet. Was easier with the old film format camera's.

It's surprising how easy it can be with a DSLR

I created this multiple crow exposure a few years ago. If I can remember how I did it I will make a few more tomorrow.

WOW, Fred Ann - hello, good to see you and your creation.

One of my specialties is multiple images of flowers - I use one for my avatar. The first three were multiple exposures in the camera on film, scanned and enhanced in Photoshop. The rest are digital captures combined on layers in Photoshop. I find with flowers, combining them in Lighten mode works well as it brings the lightest parts of each layer forward.
