I recently took this picture. It is not a very good picture, I was just messing around. But, when I went to look at it, I noticed this vertical line. I have no idea what could cause it. As you can see, there are several small dust or oil spots in the picture, but nothing like that can cause the line. No other pictures have had that line. It is not something out of focus in the background. I was shooting up in the sky
Info:
shutter speed 1/640 sec
F 9.0
ISO 140
300mm

Does anybody have any guesses?

Very curious. No idea what that might be.

A hair right in front of the sensor would make a shadow just like that.

I recently took this picture. It is not a very goo... (show quote)

Note where it's emanating from.

The chances of a hair being so absolutely straight and also laying exactly parallel to the rows of pixels, and of being in place for only one exposure cycle, is so very incredibly minuscule as to be dismissed out of hand.

Take a closer look, you will see it’s not straight and not "laying exactly parallel to the rows of pixels".
And it’s entirely possible for it to be there for only one exposure.

Nevertheless, our OP should find the 'mirror lock-up' process in the 'sensor cleaning' chapter of their camera manual and have a look to see if they do in fact have a hair (or similar) caught behind the mirror. Use tweezers or a Rocket Blower to remove, if found.

Were you tethered when you shot? Looks like the bird was!

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of that, but it is too straight.

Thanks for the suggestion. That was my first thought, but the shutter speed is too high for it to be so blurred, and long.

Yes, it is not perfectly vertical, but that is just because of the tilt of my camera when I took the picture. I could easily correct this in post. Other than the tilt, the line is perfectly straight.

Dude, clean your sensor and look under the mirror for anything that might be lurking there.

A camera strap would be much larger and darker and not end at the bird.
