The battle of Mathematics and English. Let’s see who can get it right
Question:
1 rabbit saw 9 elephants while going to the river. Every elephant saw 3 monkeys going to the river. Each monkey had 1 tortoise in each hand.
How many animals are going to the river?
If you win, I will delete your answer so that others can still guess .
I actually do not know the answer. You might consider telling your logic.

According to the wording, 10 animals were going to the river.

1 Rabbit going to the river; 3 monkeys going to the river; monkeys were carrying a total of 6 tortoises.
1+3+6=10
The elephants were not going to the river, they saw the monkeys going to the river.
Going on the premise that each elephant saw the same monkeys.

(Hope the monkeys didn't put the tortoises in the river, the tortoises will drown.)

1 rabbit was going to the river (1 rabbit going to the river)
9 elephants saw 3 monkeys going to the river. The elephants weren't going to the river but they all saw the same 3 monkeys going to the river. (3 monkeys going to the river)
Each monkey had 1 tortoise in each hand, assuming each monkey had two hands: (6 tortoises going to the river - being carried, but "going", nonetheless)
Total of 10 animals going to the river. (1 rabbit, 3 monkeys and 6 tortoises)

1 Rabbit He was going to the river; He saw the elephants, but nothing was said about them going to the river.
3 Monkeys were going to the river, witnessed by at least 9 elephants.
6 Tortoises If they are considered animals, each monkey carried 2 tortoises.
P.S. If you do not know the answer, how can you delete the wrong answers?

Aha, didn't read correctly 2 tortoises (I thought 1) then 10 is correct.

The phrasing is unclear. I think we can all agree the rabbit is going to the river. But in the second sentence, it's possible the elephants saw monkeys who were going to the river, but also possible that the sentence is poorly written and could be interpreted as: Every elephant saw 3 monkeys (while they, the elephants, were) going to the river.

In either case, the answer is 10.

1 rabbit + 9 elephants = 10
- or -
1 rabbit + 3 monkeys + 6 tortoises = 10

BUT!!! Again, unclear who the "going" parties are in sentence 2. So they could conceivably all be heading in the same direction. In which case the answer is 19.

My head hurts.

I agree with this logic with one more premise: Being carried to the river is considered "going".
