Nice shot, interesting subject. Photogenic.
Haven't seen them here yet. There are two or three every year under the sidewalk in front of the condo. This year I have a remote, so I should get some good closeup shots of one digging and stocking the burrow.
A FYI.
The males emerge first.
They swarm over the site, awaiting the emergence of a female.
Then a free for all. She emerges and is mobbed. One male wins, and mates, the rest?
The males are about half the female in weight. I wonder if they stock one cicada for male, two for female?
Anyone have any idea?

👍! Besides their behavior, as described by Bill, the orange markings on the abdomen are also an indicator of males.

To answer my own question, I dug deeper.
Yes, one cicada for male, two cicadas for a female.
