I agree. So often members like to get on a soap box and rant about spelling or other little things about the question instead of just answering if they have some input. Show a little kindness and don't tear the question apart.

Don't walk away from Abe's... RUN away from them. Too many horror stories about them. From what I've read, they should change their name to "Abe's Bait & Switch".

For some reason, I guess it is something about the name, Abe’s of Maine always gave me the feeling of being a great place...luckily I learned they were mostly a rip off, especially when I found out they were really not even in Maine!

I bought my first dlsr a d7100 from them. Yes it was grey market but I was lucky enough to not have any problems with it. I then joined the Hog and got edgeamacated. Lol. I did sell the camera when I upgraded to MPB with full disclosure. They didn't seem to care. So long story short. You can buy from them at a great price. If you don't need any type of service your golden. If you need service your lead. I've never bought from them again. I did send a couple of emails to them after learning about grey market and never received a reply. I called them and they said it was listed in the ad because they do their own service. I suggest MPB or Keh. Reason is they give a warranty and have fair prices. I bought my d500 with less than a thousand shots from MPB. Us model with all box and paperwork. They at the time warranted it for 6 months. Still have it still love it.

I would like to know it Abes's sells Nikon Lens that are backed by Nikon or are they Grey Market?

"Abe's of Maine" is in New Jersey and no one named Abe has been working there for many years. That alone should tell you something.

You will find most of their stuff listed with "International Warranty" or "Abe's Store Warranty"... both of which aren't worth the paper their printed on and are simply other ways of saying "gray market" and "we aren't authorized dealers for this gear because the manufacturer doesn't trust us".

If you order from them, it's probably 50/50 whether you will....

1. Get what you ordered in a timely manner, if at all.
2. Get a call from them trying to "upsell" you to something else.
3. Have to pay a substantial "restocking fee" if you return the item and demand a refund.

If you look up the word "shyster" in the dictionary, you will probably find it illustrated with a photo of Abe's store front.

Take your credit card and run as fast as you can away from Abe's.

Look up the same item on Adorama or B&H.... the largest reputable photo equipment dealers in the U.S., both fully authorized retailers for the vast majority of name brand products. With their volume of business and market competitiveness, you can rest assured that their prices are about as low as they can go. Be very suspicious of any place offering significantly lower prices that Adorama or B&H (who are usually the same or withing pennies of each other).

If you want to save, consider buying used (from a reputable store) or perhaps refurbished (which manufacturers are increasingly selling directly from their own US websites).

Bait and switch experts. Go to B&H or Adorama and feel confident in your purchase.

I was curious about Abe's (big discount on D750 I was looking at) and so found their contact address on their website and googlemapped it - - - it's an unmarked warehouse on a deadend street backing up on an Interstate in New Jersey. Not confidence-inspiring.

And I've noted that their products are labelled "import model."

Hmmmm.

Ask them they may sell both. Lots of negative comments here about abe's. I have bought from them a couple of times with no problems.

I’ve been scanning this website every time I receive an email and have found it entertaining and in many cases informative.

I have never posted a comment but I will now regarding Abe’s…

I research everything heavily before I buy from anyone online. I am a systems analyst, programmer and software engineer for nearly 5 decades so I am pretty detail oriented.

I bought several Canon lenses L series from Abe’s. I requested on the phone when I placed my order that I get the US warranty. It cost a little more, but it included hood, endcap, lens case and lens cover.

All accessories including the lens case that comes with some L series lenses were authentic Canon gear.

Even with the additional cost of the US warranty, I still saved hundreds of dollars.

The equipment arrived next day and as requested. I double checked the serial numbers with Canon and they are legitimate and are covered under the Canon US warranty.

They can be repaired at any Canon authorized repair center so I definitely wouldn’t purchase their in-house warranty.

Yes, they are bait and switch experts which is annoying, predatory and unethical in my opinion.

If you don’t know what to ask for you will likely get screwed.

But if you hook up with a sales person and get their name and extension number and place your order through them always specifying you want the US warranty, you will get exactly what Canon ships with all their lenses in the same retail packaging.

They also offer military discounts.

In case you’re wondering, I have no connection with Abe’s other than being a customer. My wife and I own a web development company since 1994. We take our own photographs and we have about 30K in Canon equipment.

Saving hundreds of dollars, especially in this market with the world upside down, is most satisfying.

Good luck!

Some folks are born traders and quickly grasp "the ropes" as JP / Xclaim Agency has done. To their financial benefit.

Some of us grew up in Mayberry and the idea that somebody wouldn't be fully honest with us (at least not without a good push, if at all) is enough to put them in the "won't do business here" box.

It's a trade off; that sense of honest dealings does come at a price.
