Cicada killer. The ones I see I swear are closer to 2 inches long. I am sure they differ in size though. Presumably this is a female. Keep an eye out for her later coming back with a paralyzed cicada.

But really, cicada killers are gentle giants to humans, as long as you don't pick them up.

Way cool...! Fierce looking for sure and it is good to know that they are not aggressive to humans unless picked up...which who the heck would do that?
