On top of a reed in the water, near the shore.
Since they both have excellent eyesight, they must be aware of each other. Better than mine at least, I didn't see the spider until I enlarged this on the monitor.
A Blue Dasher and what looks to be a crab spider or a small fresh water octopus.
(I love these little surprises)

Your title got me. I assumed an Apex predator and I was expecting a grizzly or lion or something. Nice capture anyway

Thank you Ken. IMHO, It doesn't replace the D850 for most things. It is really great for legacy lenses that have no VR. It was made for the 200mm f/4 Nikkor micro. The focus highlighting through the viewfinder makes all the difference in knowing where the DOF is when you are measuring in millimetres. Combine that with a heavy manual lens like the 200mm f/4 and the camera's internal VR, & I love it for macro. I may be the only person who bought a camera to go with a lens I already had. For still work, not movie, anything else, birds, dragons etc. the D850 is superior. The Z lacks in programmable buttons, fast focus acquisition, etc. Maybe the next generation will have more professional features. If it hadn't been a B-day gift from a very understanding wife, I doubt I'd buy one. But it doesn't disappoint with the 200 micro attached!

Great shot Vic. I didn't see the Crab Spider until I read all of the description. I got my only shot of a Burgundy Bluet that way.

Fantastic shot..! Perhaps you can be of help. I have a Z6 and I have the Nikon 200mm f/4 D-IF macro lens and I can not get it to autofocus on the Z6. Of course I can use it by manually focusing. Does yours autofocus on your Z7..?
