Hi,

I have a Canon Rebel camera. I also have a spotting scope. I have found an adapter for the camera. My problem: How do I know if it will fit my spotting scope?

Thanks. Arvin.

I have a Celestron birding scope that is made to fit most cameras T adapter. It takes great shots, but difficult at times to focus due to the high magnification. I have a shot of a pair of eagles I took with the scope, they were at least 1/2 mile from where we were standing.

You loose a lot of light as you increase magnification. Call your scopes manufacturer, they should be able to help. I hope this helps.

The adapter should say what thread size is on either end of it. Your spotting scope should say what thread size it is. It probably has a "diopter" threaded into it to adjust for people who wear glasses.

Another option is to make a plastic or cardboard tube that fits over the spotting scope viewing end and the camera adapter slips into the other end. Duct tape the ends of the tube where they meet to seal out light.

In any case, I would make a board base to sit the spotting scope and camera on so there is no weight on the adapter. That board can have a tripod adaptor screwed onto its bottom

You can also do this with telescopes and SLRs to see for miles with amazing clarity. I've seen it and resulting shots in a magazine but I've never done it personally.
