Is it my imagination or should the shadows, as you are looking at the picture, be on the right of the vases? If not how was this lit?

I must agree. An excellent job of composition, color, contrast and textures. All in all, very well done.

Think of it as lit by more than one light. It is indoors after all. I create the shadows most of the time. This still life was light painted so I had to. Thanks.

Your imagination.
Looks like the light source was just a little to the right.
If you are referring to the white reflection on the vases, they are angled to the left of center the same amount that the source light is angled to the right of center.

It is certainly well done. I like the composition, the colors pop, everything a still life should be. IMHO though, if I have to stop and think why the shadows are on the "wrong" side I loose interest.

I would try this without the flower and gold frond. Just beautiful “Simplicity” Although I also like it as is.
