In searching for cameras, camera bodies, and lens I have seen items stated as “international model”. Can anyone tell me what and why the differentiations in products?

. As a result for r

International model is sold by dealers who import the camera/lens through a different channel. As a result many manufacturers will not service the item like Nikon etc. Stick with B&H or Adorama so you do not get caught in that trap.

B&H also sells international (grey market) cameras and lenses.

International model is grey market. It is not imported by the official USA importer. It does not have a USA valid warranty. Typically the official USA importer assumes the cost of repairs under the warranty for which you pay a higher initial purchase price. If the product is Nikon, Nikon USA will not touch it or repair it even for a fee. Official USA importers of other brands might honor the international warranty for their brand but charge you a fee for any work done. In some instances you might have to send the item back to the country of manufacture for the warranty to be honored. Check with the brand's official USA importer for their policy. Some vendors offer a store warranty which may be limited. You did not mention what store you were thinking of buying from. Google the store's reputation or ask others on UHH about it. Some stores offer items with either International warranty or a USA warranty (but at a higher price). Others here may have more information. Also, grey market items may not include all the components present in an official USA import and the manuals etc. may be in a language other than English. Search UHH for grey market. Items bought outside the USA will not have a USA warranty. Others on UHH please correct me if I am wrong.

There is no difference with regards to the camera or lens. The difference is they will not be serviced under warranty by the camera repair shops in the US.

An international model may not be able to receive warranty work in the US. You can get warranty work in the country of origin. ie. if the item was imported from China, then you will have to send the camera to china for warranty work. Usually the international model sells for less than a US model.

The price difference between official USA imports ( Nikon, Canon, etc.) and 'grey market' imports is not, in my opinion enough to risk not being able to have it repaired, even under warranty in the USA.

Hope you got your answer, dang-it. Most major camera stores sell both regular camera's and International Version cameras. The International Version will sell for less. I have purchased two International Version camera's from Amazon, one at 23% less than the regular camera was selling for, and the other at 27% savings. Both cameras were new and in the orig. box and contained all the accessories. But I gave up the Camera Mfg's 1 yr. warranty in doing so.

Well, I went the route of a registered dealer and bought a Canon EOS 90D. It should be here Wednesday.
