Color Pencil Sketch - Yellow Lily

Subtle gradations of color, some interesting sweeps of foliage, and an itch to try my hand at color pencil sketching once more (plus the joy of using a newly downloaded piece of software [Sketch Drawer]) all contributed to this image.

Very interesting image. I like it a lot.

Did you start with a photo? Hopefully that is not insensitive, but I am trying to understand.

Yes, it was a photo ..... and not much of one at that. It has just enough interest for me to try to make something out of it. I first saved the image as a .jpg file, then used Sketch Drawer to create a Color Pencil Sketch, which I also saved as a .jpg file. I then imported the sketched .jpg into PS 2020 and blended it with the original PS image. I also used a smattering of AKVIS Neon [Feather Edges] to lighten up whole image.

I like what the program did to the image and thanks for the tutorial. Be interested in the original photo & did you buy the program or is this the 10 day trial.

Thank you, Steve. The software is SoftOrbits Sketch Drawer v7.2, and it only cost $29.99 for the Lite version, so I went ahead and bought it. I like to dabble in conversions of photos to sketches, so this was a good addition to my toolbox. Unfortunately, it's standalone software so I have to first save a .jpg file, then open it in Sketch Drawer, saving the resulting image as a differently named .jpg file. I use this edited file as a layer to merge with the original saved .jpg file, sometimes employing masks so that I can selectively target only part of the image to receive the effect.

One of the nice things about moving into the realm of abstracts, it allows you to salvage photos you would otherwise have discarded. Another nice thing about abstracts is that they are fun to create.
