How well I am familiar with that business end. While living in Oklahoma, I got stung on my upper arm. Luckily I was with a friend who noticed the arm was swelling up. She grabbed me and quickly tied a tourniquet around the shoulder (from arm pit and up above the shoulder. She then took me to the hospital which was about 2 miles away. Thankfully I was treated immediately as I found out I was allergic to their venom.

Wow, you were quite lucky to have gotten help in time. There are many that have not been as fortunate as to have someone there to help or to get treatment. It's amazing how just a micro-drop of venom can be so deadly.

For anyone who has ever dealt with the "business end" of a wasp, here's what it looks like up close. When you do a 'double download' you can see the stinger of the little bugger which is what I wanted to share.

The other thing that I found interesting is how its abdomen is segmented and I can envision how the plates fold and expand so that it can "scrunch its butt" as it dig its stinger into someone.

Well, no need to worry about this one any longer.

Another great job..... Looks like it's part armadillo.

Outstanding, sippy. I can't count the number of times I've been stung since my childhood. Haven't had the pleasure in some time, though.

Thanks, Mother Nature has a way of repeating her designs when we look closely. I believe that she invented "copy and paste".

Thanks, Kpmac. Some are far more aggressive than others. We have some red ones that just seem to be pissed off all the time.

I was under the impression that wasps bit and not sting, so I did a quick research. Wasps bite prey for food but do sting objects (people) who appear to be threats to the wasp.

Interesting image.

You are one of the best at focus stacking images.
Thanks for sharing what you do and how you arrive at your photos.

Thanks for the kind response. I use a variety of gear based on the subject so it's a lot of trial and error.
