Great photo. I too, am intrigued by these old homesteads and wonder the same kinds of things you pointed out. In our world of technology, it's tough to imagine the hardships these folks endured.
It looks pretty lonely. Wonderful photo.
Very good and well composed shot, Tommy.
Sure do love this photo and understands how it feels in these trying times.

On the road to Three Forks and the Lewis and Clark Caverns in southwest Montana. I always wonder things like, "Who were these folks? Where did they come from? What possessed the builder of this structure to settle on this exact spot? Where did they get the logs to build it? How far did they have to go for water? Where was the nearest source of supplies? Etc..." But... I guess we 'll never know...all we have is the legacy of their lives found in these old homesteads...
I also like photographing old structures like that and wonder who lived there, why, what were their lives like, and why did the leave. Old abandoned stores, gas stations, as well; after they spent the work and money starting the business what happened to the dreams they once had for this business?
Many, many thanks to each and every one of you Hoggers who took the time to comment! Your input is always appreciated... I guess these old structures do strike a chord in a lot of folks - memories of days gone by, lives lived, loves gained and lost, hard work, hard play, and perhaps a simpler, more understandable age, lost in time... at least, that's what I try to convey in my images. Keep clicking, mates!
Again, a beautiful & thought provoking image.

Yes indeed.....those questions are really something to think about. Those farmers had it very harsh to start with nothing at all but prairie for miles around then mountains that had to be a barrier for many a traveler back then.

WOW! Looked at first and thought huh just another landscape. Well I downloaded and this photo is awesome. The colors and the sun over the horizon is perfect. This is definitely a wall hanger. Post more when you can, love it. Thanks
Tom
Yes, in Download this image really stands out. Well done.
I have often wondered the same questions when traveling and seeing old abandoned buildings.
