Welcome to the "Transportation" Challenge. Feel free to include images of your favorite ways to go from one place to another, or images of how you'd like to go from one place to another.

Just a couple reminders: please, keep it "family friendly," and while this falls under the "Photo Contests, Challenges, Periodicals," the only prize is knowing you contributed something that other members might enjoy. Also, unless someone specifically asks for advice on how to improve their image, please refrain from providing critique. There is another section on UHH for just that, but this is not that place. This is the place where we just kick back and have fun.

Hope you enjoy.

Tim

As far as Transportation goes......this is one of those......Whatevers! Following 9 days at sea while on our way to Barcelona from Florida we arrived at the island of Madeira (Funchal) in Portugal. (April 2016) We had a tour that included a ride down the hillside on one of these toboggans/sleds. They have been doing this here for over 100 years.

Each toboggan has 2 guys who hop on and off to guide us down the hill. They use ropes and their feet to steer and brake as needed. The men have special shoes that are designed to give traction down the steep, narrow, twisting streets. Both their shoes and the runners on the sleds have to be replaced every few weeks. Local factories handle those jobs.

My goal here will be to share a bit of the feeling you might get while riding down these regular neighborhood streets, with not too much traffic! No where else can one do this so it's a once in a lifetime thrill and I'm happy to have done it. Please enjoy a tiny bit of this virtual experience. Bob

Pg 2 - What an wonderfully unique experience, Bob, and thank you so much for sharing. The thing that really impressed me is that the men guiding you down the hill are no spring chickens!

Sorry, just kidding!

As far as the last two images, the merry go round is much more my speed than is the ballon ride.

Pretty big property ! Are there lots of wild animals to watch and shoot(camera)?

Mostly kangaroos, and wallaroos . The foxes are (introduced) vermin in Australia and are treated as such (they cause havoc with the lambs).

Common wallaroo.
