Nice as always.

I see the lens you are using, but for these shots like 1,3,4, what are you actually setting A to for this nice DoF? I really like that the background is enough out of focus so that the emphasis is on the player but the background still adds interest

Sometimes I worry that I am working too hard to push the A too low, and sacrificing a bit too much DoF

Hi David:
Thanks for looking again. Okay here is what I have for these shots you asked about.
1, 3 4 were taken at 1/000 at 5.6 iso 360 or so. Focal length with the 80-400 4.5 was at 80mm shot in manual. I always try to keep my shutter as low as possible while still freezing the action. It makes for a low iso enhancing quality. I could have shot at 1/2000 or higher but why? Shoot tight and be safe my friend.

Absolutely agree on the lowest SS to freeze the action so as to drive down ISO. Surprised that you could freeze it at 360. would have expected 500-800.

I am amazed at how tight these are at 80mm! You must be right on the sidelines and close to the action.

Hello David:
No not 360 that was the iso. I froze the action at 1/1000 at 5.6. I shoot baseball at about 1/1600-1/2000 same on daytime football.
Good question on you guys part.
Jules

I was on the sideline, very close to the action you are right David. Now a days I would use the 200-500 5.6 and as a sideline camera D4 with 70-200 2.8 for those close shots.
